Delaware PTA is entering into a partnership with Family First, a national nonprofit organization dedicated to fortifying families. On January 17, Melissa Erickson and Kaleigh Cunningham from Family First made a presentation to several members of the Delaware PTA Board about two of the organization’s family programs:

All Pro Dad’s Day. This fatherhood initiative brings dads and children together for a monthly, school-based breakfast meeting that includes a meal and an interactive discussion of a topic such as understanding your children, having a positive attitude, overcoming fear, and more.

iMOM Morning. A similar initiative aimed at mothers, iMOM Morning involves a breakfast and bonding experience for moms and kids. iMOM also offers resources designed to equip mothers with ideas, information and encouragement for the vital job of being a mom.

All Pro Dad and iMOM are official family involvement initiatives of the National PTA, and PTAs in more than 45 states currently participate. “All Pro Dad and iMOM have proven to be successful programs for our local PTAs,” says National PTA President Betsy Landers.

The national spokespersons for Family First are Tony Dungy, former NFL star and the first African American coach to win the Super Bowl, and wife Lauren. The Dungys are active PTA parents and serve as National PTA Honorary Membership Chairs. They also coauthored a children’s book entitled You Can Be a Friend.

Delaware PTA is excited about Family First programming as a resource and membership growth tool for units throughout the state.
