PTA Kit Registration is Open!

The National PTA Official Back to School Kit—Beyond the Basics returns with great resources from National PTA: the PTA Quick-Reference Guides, membership materials, program and advocacy resources, and special offers from national partners. And the first kit is free of charge! All units have to do is register.

All local, council, district, and region PTAs must register to receive the 2012-2013 kit. The kit registration form will be available at PTA.org/OfficialKit starting May 7. The form allows the incoming PTA president or other authorized leader to select the preferred shipping date and confirm or change the shipping address for the kit. In this way, the registration process helps us ensure that the kit gets into the right hands at the right time for each unit. Units can also register for the kit by calling the National PTA Information Center at (800) 307-4PTA (4782).

Delaware PTA has been committed to advocating on behalf of our state’s children since our founding in 1911. Our mission is clear: be a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and communities, and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child. In carrying out the mission of our organization, Delaware PTA released a candidate survey designed to collect information from individuals running in the upcoming school board elections. The intent was – and always has been – to be a resource for families and provide information relevant to our mission of advocating on behalf of our state’s children. As a 501(c)(3) organization, we cannot – nor have any desire – to endorse or promote one candidate over another.

U.S Education Secretary visits to discuss Delaware’s Race to the Top progress

“Don’t let perfect get in the way of good,” U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan reiterated that mantra more than once during a roundtable discussion on Delaware education reform with about 40 stakeholders from across the state Friday.

2012 National PTA Legislative Priorities

On Thursday March 8^th 2012, Delaware PTA President Yvonne Johnson, Delaware PTA Federal Legislative Chair Terri Hodges and Delaware PTA Director of Unit Services Bonnie Mucha met with U.S. Senators Tom Carper, Chris Coons and U.S. House Representative John Carney on Capitol Hill to discuss issues in education. We were excited to have our National PTA President Betsy Landers and Director of Government Affairs Elizabeth Rorick join us on our visit with Senator Chris Coons.

Does Your Business Need a Ricoh Printer?

The Delaware PTA needs your help! In June, 2010, we entered into a five-year contract with Ricoh (http://ricoh.com/) for a high-end multifunction (printer/copier/scanner/fax) machine. Because of our move to more electronic means of communication, we have recently been using only a tiny fraction of its capacity. However, in this challenging economy, the machine is consuming 25% of our net income ($4,888 annually). This has severely crippled our ability to carry out our mission of advocating for the children of Delaware.
