Common Education Acronyms

Have you ever attended a meeting or presentation with educators and discovered they were speaking in a foreign language?  It is highly likely that what you have encountered is “edu-speak” the beautiful language of education!  As part of our continued education for parents, we thought that it would be helpful to try and understand their language so that we can engage in more meaningful dialogue.  Here is a list of Common Education Acronyms for your review to use in your travels.  But I offer a challenge, if you come across an acronym that is not on this list and you really think it should be please send to me in an email to:

DE State PTA Receives Grant to Train on Common Core Standards!

The Delaware State Parent Teacher Association will receive funding from the National PTA to train its members, educators, administrators and community leaders on the implementation of Common Core Standards in classrooms.

 

The Delaware State PTA is part of the National PTA’s Common Core State Standards Initiative. Through its involvement, the Delaware State PTA will meet with key state and local decision-makers, engage the media and train parents with key advocacy skills to support the standards. Created by teachers, parents, education experts and others from across the country, the standards provide clear, consistent expectations for what students should be learning at each grade level in mathematics and English language arts in order to be prepared for college and careers.

PARENT GUIDE TO STUDENT SUCCESS

 

The Parents’ Guide to Student Success (listed below in English and Spanish) was developed in response to the Common Core State Standards in English language arts and mathematics that more than 40 states have adopted.  Created by teachers, parents, education experts, and others from across the country, the standards provide clear, consistent expectations for what students should be learning at each grade in order to be prepared for college and career.

National PTA® created the guides for grades K-8 and two for grades 9-12 (one for English language arts/literacy and one for mathematics).
